"Expressive Hands" as part of The Creative Center at 184 Eldridge Street, NYC. Participants will explore the language of hastas or hand gestures in the Indian dance style of Bharatanatyam, which consists of a vocabulary of gestures that are used for storytelling. In this series, we will use hastas to describe and appreciate nature, and each participant will have the opportunity to create hastas of their own and create a hand sculpture to reflect their personal connection to the natural world. Through this creative process, we will deepen our understanding of both Bharatanatyam and the symbolic language of hands, while also engaging in a meditative and artistic exploration of nature’s forms and rhythms. |
