About SamyuktaNYC: SamyuktaNYC was established in 2019, with the goal to bring Bharatanatyam (a 2000-year-old classical Indian dance form) to Upper Manhattan communities, including its green spaces. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest dance forms in the world and is comprised of a rich repertoire of narration, percussion, and facial expression. SamyuktaNYC works to make this Indian art form accessible to people who may otherwise not have exposure to it.
"Samyuka" is a Sanskrit word that literally means "to come together". Very simply, the goal of our group is to bring artists together. While the core group comprises two people, we believe in the power and richness of collaboration. The project will be a chance for SamyuktaNYC to work with other NYC-based artists, and to present our collective work to residents of upper Manhattan.
Grants funded: In 2019, we were awarded a Capacity Fund Grant by the CityParks Foundation, and again in 2023/2024, we are proud to receive funding from them for "निसर्ग/ Nature" - exploring the natural beauty of upper Manhattan through Bharatanatyam.
