WHY I WRITE FOR PATIENTS?
I believe that words have the power to change the world, and that scientists have an obligation to communicate their science to patients and caregivers in a way that is clear and concise, but never condescending or over-simplified. Moreover, most, if not all, funding for basic science comes from taxpayer’s money. If you want a scientific paper to be explained in non-scientific terms, or if you want to learn how to write for a non-scientific audience, contact me!

SOME OF THE ORGANIZATIONS I WORK WITH ARE:
- CURE Epilepsy: For CURE Epilepsy, I developed detailed content for patients and caregivers in a way that highlights and demystifies the science around the epilepsies.
- The Owlet - a resource for educators that provides science teachers with content for lectures, ideas for experiments, and new scientific information.
- www.epilepsy.com is the premier website for patients with epilepsy and their caregivers. As the editor of the basic science section, I write about basic epilepsy research in nonscientific terms. Take a look at my articles here! The topics I pick are based on data from google analytics on global readership. I have also been fortunate to have many collaborators (postdoctoral fellows and graduate students) who have shown an interest and talent in writing with me. It has been my pleasure to work with them.
- The International League Against Epilepsy is an organization dedicated to promote education about epilepsy worldwide. The topics that I have covered for the basic science section of ILAE are on this page.
- FACES (Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) is affiliated with the NYU School of Medicine and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, and provides comprehensive care to people with epilepsy and their caregivers.
Additional organizations include:
- Nathan Kline Institute: I did my postdoctoral fellowship at the Nathan Kline Institute, where I also wrote for the newsletter ‘NKI Informer’
- Weill Cornell Epilepsy Center
- Science Recorder
- Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group
- Navigating epilepsy
- Neuroscience for Kids
- SciPhD
- Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance
- NYU School Of Medicine Infocus Magazine
- Hope for Hypothalamic Hamartomas
- Seizure Free
